Mysteries of the Superstition Mountains The Hiking Club invites all Sun City residents to hear the Mysteries of the Superstition Mountains on March 4 at 4:00 pm in the Ballroom. Per square mile, the Superstition Mountains are the most dangerous in the world. Over 600 people have died or gone missing looking for gold. David Czaplicki, a resident of Sun City Anthem at Merrill Ranch, and author of three fictional novels including his latest, The Superstitions Hidden Secrets, will discuss the research for this novel as it pertains to the high number of deaths and unexplained events in the Superstition Mountains. STARGAZING AT PERALTA REGIONAL PARK – 10Mar2024
Who: Members and their spouse When: Sunday, March 10 Where: Peralta Regional Park, Ramada #2 Time: 6:00 pm dinner, followed by stargazing at sunset Cost: Entrance to Peralta Regional Park is $7.00 per vehicle. Dinner price is $5.00 per person, please bring exact change and payable that evening. What to Bring: a chair and flashlight and your telescope if you have one. Our Club chef and helpers will be ready to serve up chili, baked potatoes with all the fixins and cornbread. Kathy Prince, a Sun City resident and astronomy enthusiast will join us with her telescope. There are stargazer apps you may download on your phone to use. All unnecessary light needs to be limited for stargazing so we will follow the National Park recommendations to reduce the amount of bright light and allow our eyes to adjust to the darkness. Bring a red flashlight if you have one. We will have red cellophane available to cover flashlights and cellphones. Driving Directions: Drive north on Felix Road to Arizona Farms and turn right. Turn left on AZ 79 and drive 9.7 miles to Highway 60 and go west. Travel 8 miles on Hwy. 60 and turn right onto Peralta Road. Drive 5 miles to Peralta Regional Park entrance on the right. Follow signs to Group Picnic and park near Ramada 2. CHIRICAUHA OVERNIGHT SPRING ADVENTURE – 19March2024
Make your plans now to attend our Spring Hiking Adventure to the beautiful Chiricahua Mountains located in Southeast Arizona near the town of Willcox, AZ. Tuesday afternoon, March 19, we will depart from the Holiday Inn Express for our hikes. Two hikes are planned, Fort Bowie National Historic Monument and Sugar Loaf Mountain. Wednesday morning, March 20, there will be three hikes in Chiricahua National Monument. We recommend the Holiday Inn Express in Willcox for your overnight stay, but there are a few more hotels to choose from. Don’t delay in making your reservations. Register for this trip to let us know you are planning to attend. Hike signup will be the Thursday before the hikes.

Wear your Fiesta attire and enjoy tacos and more! Of course, your spouse is welcome to join us. Please register to let us know you are coming, and if you are bringing a guest.
