Special Instructions:

Don’t let the short distance on this hike fool you. It is steep, and there are cables in 3 or 4 places. You must be able to trust the strength of your hands to hold your weight if you slip when using the cables. This is for experienced hikers. You will need gloves for the cables. Poles are recommended. Make sure you bring plenty of water and a big snack. This hike requires an entrance fee ($7/car) or State Park Pass.

THIS HIKE IS CHALLENGING AND MORE DIFFICULT THAN MOST HIKES AT THIS LEVEL. PLEASE CONSIDER ITS SEVERITY AND YOUR PERSONAL CONDITION AND EXPERIENCE BEFORE REGISTERING FOR THIS HIKE.

Directions:

From Coolidge, take AZ 87 South to I-10. Take I-10 East to exit 219. Turn right on Picacho Peak Rd. Enter Park entrance and pay at Rangers booth. Drive to Barrett Loop Road, turn left (restrooms will then be on your right). Continue to small Hunter Trail trailhead parking area. It is about 40 miles, one way.
