Special Instructions:
This hike is in the area just west of the open pit copper mining area between Superior and Globe. Access uses the mining roads and some of the mining facility can be seen along the way. The hike differs from the description in Hike Arizona, as we will go in to Tony’s Cabin and return to the trailhead rather than hike out to a different trailhead. Bring plenty of water and food for a snack and lunch.
Directions:
Take Felix Rd north, turn right (east) on Arizona Farms Road. Turn left (north) on AZ 79. Take the right ramp onto Hwy 60 east toward Globe. Follow Hwy 60 past Superior to Milepost 239. Turn left (north) 0.5 miles past mile post on Pinto Valley Rd. This is FS 287. Follow FS 287 for 3 miles and turn left on FS 287 (becomes dirt road). Stay right on 287 at the large arrow. At 4.8 miles go straight on 287, there is a sign ‘curved mountain road’. Turn left just before the bridge. Parking area is along the road before the gate. The trail starts inside the gate.
