Special Instructions:
This is a scenic hike in the Box Canyon area. The hike starts close to the mouth of Box Canyon; the hike turns and follows the first side canyon which is shortly after you enter Box Canyon. You follow this side canyon until meeting up with the 4-wheel trail to the coke ovens (this is shortly after this trail separates from the trail to Martinez mine). You follow this road to a drainage which leads all the way back to Box Canyon Road. There is minor rock climbing and rock hoping in areas. Bring plenty of water and food for snacks and lunch.
Directions:
Felix Rd south to Hunt Hwy. Turn left on Hunt Hwy to AZ 79. Turn left (north) on AZ 79 for 0.2 miles to Price Rd (just before railroad tracks). Turn right on Price Rd. At 1.8 miles, stay right, still on Price Rd (note GPS may say Price Station). At T-intersection (4.0 miles) turn right on Water Way. At 9.9 miles, stay left. This is Box Canyon Rd. Follow Box Canyon Rd for 3 miles. Parking is on the right. The hike group will want to drop of some vehicles at the large parking lot approx. 1.5 miles before the entrance into the canyon (this is where the hike will end), then take remaining vehicles into the start of Box Canyon to start the hike, the side canyon is approx. .25 miles into Box Canyon.
